Description
Metosartan as an antihypertensive drug was known to the mankind for past few years-but its toxicity on the male reproductive system was something interesting to find. It causes the immature sperms to attain toroid like structures and also induces ss breaks in the sperm DNA and as well as in the genome of germ cells. It reduces the sperm count and also induces apoptosis in sperm and germ cells of male rats. It reduces the viability of mitochondria by increasing the permeability of inner membrane of mitochondria through release of cyt C. During oxidative stress the germ cell mitochondria expressed unique cyt P450 to get rid of the negative effects induced by oxidative stress but the expression of cyt P450 was not seen in sperm mitochondria and cryopreservation of sperm mitochondria induced distortion in the organelle. The drug inhibits RNase A withmolwt24Kda present in testes The column separation of RNase present in testes proved to contain RNase A, inhibits by metosartan competitively and whereas the drug inhibits bovine pancreatic commercially available RNase Auncompetitively.
